If you manage firewalls or network security for your department, contact Pitt IT as soon as possible to schedule your department’s migration.Department IT staff should take the following steps today to help their department prepare for the move: Pitt IT is committed to working closely with departments to ensure a seamless firewall migration. To ensure the continued security of the University’s network, Pitt IT must transition all remaining departments to Palo Alto firewalls before May 31, 2023.

The University’s previous enterprise firewall solution is nearing the end of its hardware lifecycle and will no longer receive vendor support or essential security updates. More than 75% of University users have been moved, providing advanced data security and enhanced protection against viruses, spyware, and application vulnerabilities. Pitt Information Technology is in the final stage of its initiative to replace the University’s enterprise network firewalls ― used in all departments to protect data and devices connected to PittNet ― with next-generation Palo Alto firewalls.
